   I would have a lot more sympathy for where Mozilla is coming from if they could just be transparent about it. Like, put out a PR saying "hey, we're strapped for cash and would like to keep making Firefox, here's what we're trying, why we don't like it, and why it's still what we think is the best option."

   But that's precisely what they're *not* doing.

     @xgranade That wouldn't work because they're not an organization that spends their money on the work. They spend it on executive pay and scammy acquisitions. And folks know this. Yes donations could easily bail out the actual work, but the people who'd be asking would be trying to bail out their own salaries/bonuses for enshittifying the product, which not only is nobody going to pay for, but it also would cost orders of magnitude more than the actual work would.
