They made user serviceable laptops. I bought one last year:

..but now they're selling "AI" workstations with soldier on RAM and other very non-consumer friendly shit.

They announced a Framework 12 and I think it's still fully modular, but I didn't look at it too closely.

I was just talking about their stupid desktop. Like you could build a more serviceable ITX system for cheaper. Even most mini-PCs or a NUC at least have replaceable ram.

I just hope they don't try other bad products like it. Hopefully it doesn't sell well and they learn from it.

I think the main argument for soldered on RAM is the ability to use LPDDR5, but they could have gone really bleeding edge and used LPCAMM2 modules.

@djsumdog@djsumdog.com The Framework Laptop 12 looks fully modular from the animation on the Laptop 12 page that shows a piece of its internals being replaced.

Yea the desktop is kinda stupid, I wish they could've figured out a way to get that CPU working with swappable ram but apparently something about the powerful integrated graphics or something...

Mostly I just didn't like your choice of words. Made it sound like they completely pivoted when they didn't.
