This is the US Attorney for the District of Columbia taking a shot at the Associated Press (presumably over their refusal to call The Gulf of Mexico by another name), while calling the Justice Department "President Trump's lawyers," which I'm sure isn't infuriating at all to a lot of decent people at the DOJ. Just incredible.

@whknott @briankrebs when you let a lot of corporate money into the politics - they merge with the state. Just today I read that DCCC got $2.5 million last month from Palantir - no wonder most House Dems are strangely silent...

FFS, in good parts of Europe it's already a huge scandal if a politician accepts a free holiday in a millionaire's 2nd home...

@dimpase the scary part to me that I keep trying to tell my friends is that modern dictatorships don't typically get overthrown from within. They persist, sometimes crumble, but mostly persist. It typically takes a collapse of some kind for them to fail. And you know what they say, the bigger they are the harder they fall, and America is big, dumb, and fat.

@dimpase Greeaaat. So happy to hear that agents of my government now sound exactly like Russians. So comforting. Thanks.
I mean, seriously thanks, but jfc what timeline is this? I think I took a wrong turn at Albequerque.

@whknott @briankrebs given that Putin's Russia basically employs Nazi Germany style of symbolics, and Putin's speechwriters get inspired by Goebbels et al, no wonder that tRump's goons draw upon similarly inspiring historical documents....

@briankrebs Is this the Deputy Director of the FBI directly threatening violent retribution against political groups?
I'm pretty sure I read a thing about this too somewhere, give me a second to remember where it was. It might be the same place.

@whknott @briankrebs sounds disturbingly familiar (lifelong USSR PTSD here) - that's roughly the language of prosecutors at Stalin's show trials against "enemies of the people"

Martin is in good company these days. Here's Dan Bongino, a former Secret Service agent turned conservative talk show host who was just named as deputy director of the FBI.
