@Tydragon Not sure I have favorite apps just yet, still exploring.
Tuba has been decent for Mastodon, and Shortwave is awesome - old school internet radio.
Spotify sucks on here. I got it working with Psst, but the experience is a kludge at best. Spot looks better, but had a regression recently and won't play anything but like 3 of Liked Albums. -

@hellomiakoda Which apps do you use for music and games? And which are your favorite apps?

@gangrif I got fed up with my Pixel, and the current Nazi infestation prompted me to up my privacy game, so I got a @furilabs FLX1.
It's still got some bugs, but it is by far the most usable #Linux phone I have seen. It has real potential to get to a point where average normies could use it.
Furilabs guys are awesome, btw. Friendly, helpful, and they seem passionate about what they're doing. -

@hellomiakoda @gangrif @furilabs I was a bit disappointed when I saw no "convergence" support (you plug in a usb c dock and you get a desktop experience; or a lapdock for a laptop experience ;) ). But that being said, it's still a great product. I was able to test it at FOSDEM and yeah it's really great.

My biggest issue with smart phones is thr privacy invasion. I'm mind blown people don't care. I am sure they would be hella mad if I broke in their house and read their messages and files, why are they fine with Google and Meta doin it?! -

Thats awesome! Ill have a look.
Ive been dis-satisfied with smart phone options for years. and have begrudgingly been on iPhone for this last few. Because i really think both platforms are pretty terrible for different reasons.

@m0xee The included firefox is pretty usable. It has some issues, but none that make it unusable. Add ons work. Biggest issue is the settings. I had to keep switching between landscape and portrait to get to all the buttons to tap to get things set how I want it.

Is Firefox usable? I remember it being somewhat clunky in Droidian on my phone and AFAIK Furiphone uses a similar OS.
That was a couple of years ago though, so things might've improved drastically. -

@alaraajavamma @gangrif @mekuso @dfs @furilabs I'd offer, but an '05 does not have Android auto.
Half the time, I rely on “Here, hold this. ....oh quit whining. I'm giving you a ride, you can hold the phone.”.

@gangrif @mekuso @dfs @hellomiakoda @furilabs I just talked with Furilabs ceo and head dev and he did say that android auto is definately doable. He does not have anything to test it but if you look how much "impossible" stuff they have made reality I believe it will work if someone just can give helping hand for the developement (= user with access to FLX1 and car with android auto support - it is car thing right?).
For example they did build USA VoLTE & mms support "which was not possible"

@dfs @hellomiakoda @gangrif @furilabs It's probably a good idea to focus on one concept and try to do that one thing well. That's hard enough as it is, most of the time 😄

Just a note - all of that was posted from the FLX1 itself, if tht wasn't obvious.
It's on wifi. I don't yet have a data plan for it. Mint gave me trouble and then my trial ran out. I may get another trial from them, as there was ice storm damage affecting services during the trial tat may have been the cause of my struggles with it.
Either that, or Metro.
If anyone has experience with a non-trial plan on #Linux witj those to MVNOs, I'd apprecite your input. -

I really want visual voicemail to work, but that's not a complete deal killer. (Haven't had a full plan to try it with yet, so no blame on Furilabs for VV struggles)

@oscarjiminy @gangrif @furilabs Sorry, no. Documentation is not my strong skill at all. Though, there isnt much yoh're missing. Most the apps I used in stock Android worked fine in Calyx and Graphene. Notable sacrifice was Cash App... after I had bought their metal card. Ugh.

@Idcrafter Android apps function like just apps on FuriOS. As long as the container is running, you jut tap them in the same launcher as the Linux apps

@hellomiakoda i would wanna see Android Translation layer to be used more for Android app support on Linux phones to have to not run a whole Android System on top of the Linux gor a app.
but the rest looks good. -

@oscarjiminy @gangrif @furilabs So... I used to be a Google fan. I had Google Home devices, was excited to get the Pixel 4.
I did enjoy it all. But ya know, I also used to enjoy cigarettes. Enjoyment doesn't mean it's good.
I came go understand the privacy hazard of Google. I dumped Gmail (it now serves as only a log in to watch YouTube), unplugged the Home speakers, moved to a NextCloud server, switched to DuckDuck and SearX...
And, Pixel phones are ironically very eazy to degoogle. I ran Calyx -

@oscarjiminy @gangrif @furilabs That phone eventually failed. Pixels are easy to degoogle, so I got a Pixel 6a and degoogled it before use. I ran Graphene. That phone's hardware is utter trash. I hate that fucking thing.
With the Naxis, and the tarrifs, it was now or never on a Linux phone. So now I'm weaning myself off Android phone and on to Linux phone. Ironically, NextCloud sync is not the easiest thing on phone. -

@oscarjiminy @gangrif @furilabs Bivvest hurtle is... Navi apps currently suck balls on Linux. FLX1 can run android apps. So, till there is a Limux Mobile app for absolutely evergthing, I have that crutch to hold me up.

@oscarjiminy @gangrif @furilabs With no data plan (FLX1 wont work on the Verizon MVNO I have), temporarily using my Android as a hotspot to my FLX1 till I get that sorted out.
Leaving it liks that while I get to using the FLX1 for everything (except calling). -

@hellomiakoda yeah but it is using Waydroid wich isn't that optimal for battery life and i know that waydroid can display apps as windows but running Android apps as "native" software using ATL would be a better option for the future.
waydroid still has the full Android user space it emulates even if you only show one app. -

@Idcrafter I agree, but this is still pretty good for now.
What I really want is there to be no reason to run an Android app.
