    Sorry but if your "we're here to make it easy to build small web things" is just another JS mess I can't take you seriously.

    If it's about allowing more people to build something on the Web it needs to start with HTML and CSS. Not weird App routing and NPM dependencies.

    (Yes I am old.)

      Me, 5000+ pages of html and css. I had some JavaScript once but later I didn't need it.

      But before talking about encoding, it behooves us to have a clear assessment of the goal: for me, I'm making a document. Though obviously silly, you could print my website on paper (with numerous formatting atrocities I suppose).

      In the early oughts, when "everyone" was looking for a CMS or whatever to add to the complexity of their lives, I did too, tried s couple, came to my senses and realized that all I was doing was some late-20th fancy writing, and images and links and documents, learning my own personal subset of css was far more than enough.

      Of course YMMV, and other people, other needs. But I think too many just embrace new tech thinking they'll be considered backwards or something if they don't.

      @tante @residuum Yep. That‘s why there is #Gemini.

      Use @lagrange and open gemini://taz.de - it‘s great. (This JS smol web stuff is not.)

      @residuum let's just go with C for efficiency. https://jkorpela.fi/forms/cgic.html

      Let's do it in Java. How about a WebsiteGeneratorFactory?
