   @domi i'm really annoyed by this kinda stuff because like, do those people even want us to package things at all

   i'm so tempted to dump all but necessary rust software from the repository and say "if you like cargo and rustup so much, maybe you should use them" but i won't because it's not the users' fault and i don't wanna be petty

   but at the same time, this ecosystem is like the only one that is consistently giving me random pains like that, like it's punishing me for keeping up with it

     @domi there are probably like 5 crates variously used by various things (this one is worse because it's an official one so it's used by a lot more things) that all do this stuff, i.e. force a bunch of known triples and hard error if yours does not match

     patching it from every application is a pain...

     this is worse though because it used to work and in the new version it does not, so once the new version starts making it into lockfiles, everything will go to hell
