hunting for black sheep today

Outside of shiny hunting, even as a mechanic it's a less useful DexNav. These mons can only have 1 egg move, making it a bit more tedious (you can still pass those egg moves around, so it just makes the process longer) and it's harder to get good IVs with this method compared to the DexNav. There's also how much harder it is to encounter the mon you're looking for compared to the DexNav.
I think the most annoying thing is that the Dex shows you how many of a species you've caught or battled but that number caps at 999, like the DexNav. Come on, the thing caps so fast in ORAS, you'd have thought they'd at least increase the cap by one digit, costs them nothing.

The shining/brilliant whatever it's called method of shiny hunting in Sword and Shield kinda sucks. It's like the DexNav from ORAS but worse. The shiny rate is halved for brilliant pokemon at max rank, which takes a while to get to, while also doubling the brilliant rate but since it's based on the overworld mons which were hastily added to the game, the rate of seeing one is still pretty important. Getting to max rank is also time consuming making me doubt the time gain if you're hunting for a single shiny of that mon.
Overall it doesnt feel that different from just random encounters hunting.

I was hoping to catch the ever elusive karakul today, but it was not meant to be. How many more will I have to sacrifice...

I didn't expect it to go on for this long without at least a phase, but I'll kill as many as it takes...
