It has unfixed security issues over a year old: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apache_OpenOffice#Security – So all users are strongly recommended to update to one of the actively maintained successor projects, like LibreOffice. (Please share and help raise awareness about this!)

     it is IRRESPONSIBLE that they still allow it to be downloaded without HUGE warnings

     am I the only one who thinks this?

     @libreoffice i did. But after the latest update of my Mac i cannot open it anymore. Apple says no.

     @lindarosesmit Not sure what that issue is as other macOS users aren't reporting it, but maybe the steps towards the bottom here will help you on your setup: https://support.apple.com/en-us/102445
