Ooh. A Twilight Zone moment.

Imagine a universe underpinned by a quantum layer that is a probability machine which responds to observation.

Imagine creatures, products of the universe, equipped with the means to interpret and interact with that layer through efficient quantum computers they carry with them everywhere, in their heads.

Imagine these creatures saturating those quantum computers with every horrible possible future there is, and then some, in mass media programmed by similar creatures.

Now imagine that some of the creatures doing the programming are narcissistic sociopaths with shit-tons of money.
