   I follow and engage with lots of different people. Of which, some have various disabilities.

   Sometimes I tend to forget which people I interact with are visually impaired.

   It tends to make me feel bad when someone's interacting with my posts and I don't know or remembed if they're visually impaired and it worries me that some of my posts aren't screen reader friendly.

   That being said, what are some things that screen readers have issues with, that might not be very obvious to a sighted person?

   I'm thinking like emojis because of the way Fediverse handles them. Do they annoy you visually impaired people?

   Are there other things that are annoying or just generally unpleasant to come across in a post while using a screen reader?

   Thanks for any info you can provide.

   I want my posts to be as accessible as possible and I'm always doubting that a lot of them are not.

     @RandomFire @the_spc okay, it seems like I am doing good for the most part.

     I do sometimes do the emoji thing when I'm very emotional about the topic I'm discussing, but now that you said that, I'll try to keep those to a minimum.

     How about normal punctuations like dashes or hyphens, semi-colons, bullet points that are visually just a dot, and numbered lists?

     @BeAware @the_spc Emojis are fine, except when they are used in bulk. For example, when someone posts like 10 faces and 10 people dancing, and a whole string of ridiculousness, it is very obnoxious to read. Gifs are questionable. Many of them do not translate. The other annoyance is when pictures are posted without alt text, or even useful alt text. Also, if you are using hashtags, and they are multiple words, it is helpful to capitalize the first letter of each word. The screen reader may not pronounce it correctly if this is not done. All of this said, I appreciate your willingness to make sure that all can participate. It is refreshing to find this kind of perspective.

     @BeAware @the_spc I’m pretty sure as long as they are formatted properly, they work. Also, proper punctuation is much appreciated, because otherwise, if there is none, the screen reader reads it like a big run-on sentence. I can tell when people have dictated their posts and have not bothered to put in punctuation.

     @RandomFire @the_spc okay great. I try so hard with that, so it's good to hear that my posts should be readable for the most part with screen readers.

     @the_spc @RandomFire since we interact regularly, please do tell me if something in my posts doesn't work for your screen reader whenever you come across it.

     I'd rather have you call me out so I can fix it and correct my behavior for the future, than have never known something could be an issue.

     I know how it feels to be left out of stuff and I'd just hate to make anyone else feel that way.
