    I have a Google Voice number from back when it was Grand Central, before the Google purchase.

    I’d like to hang on to the number. I use it as a call screening service: you have to record a name when calling, which eliminates almost all bots, which lets me use it as a junk number I can give out with some freedom.

    Now I want to ditch Google Voice. Does anybody have a call forwarding service to recommend that performs a similar funciton?

      I meant “function,” but if you have a recommendation that performs a funky-ton, I am interested in that too

      @elliot
      This looks very promising, and they even have a guide for porting out of GV: https://wiki.voip.ms/article/How_to_port_my_number_from_Google_Voice_to_VoIP.ms

      Thank you!

      @inthehands you should be able to set something like this up with VoIP.ms

      you can set menus, voice mail, sip lines, forwarding and other features. costs are very modest.

      @inthehands CallCentric is an IP telephony service that is not free but is cheap as heck. It doesn't have any out of the box "record your name" settings, but it does let you set a telemarketer block that makes them press a number to be connected. You can either have it forward to your regular number, or use a VOIP app (I like using an app better because it makes it easy to see whether calls are coming from it vs from my personal phone number. I personally use Acrobits Softphone but there's a lot of VOIP apps and I haven't evaluated any of them for 3 years). We use it for the escape room business. IDK if it's a good fit for you, but I'm pretty happy with them

      @spencer Ah, it looks a bit more like infrastructure / building block than shrink-wrapped service at first glance. I'll check it out!

      @inthehands They're not as well known as the big guys, but anveo.com has a whole visual call flow programming system where you basically drag and drop functions into a workspace and join them together to process calls.

      The basic programming tools are included with your DID fee.

      My simple bot blocker flow asks the caller to press "3" to continue and then hangs up of the keypress doesn't arrive within a few seconds.
