the machine has 20MiB now (4 onboard + 16 via add-on board), but previously it had only 12 (4 + 8). and the stock NetBSD kernel takes a good 5MiB of that (5268kb, if you want to get more exact).
which is part of why i wanted a custom kernel, to disable options i don't need and reduce the size of the kernel in memory. for example, i use this machine headless, so there's no point in enabling the support for its graphics device

my vax is now recompiling its kernel
i believe this will be the third time i've had this machine build its own kernel. and the first time it did not have sufficient RAM for the taskHaelwenn /элвэн/ :triskell: likes this.
