Imagine you spent years getting qualifications in AI, taking AI ethics courses, and working with professionals on and with some of the first image and language generators completely inside a professional and scientific environment, only to have a handful billionaires shape the whole world's perception of what artificial intelligence is associated with within two years, whilst co-opting terms like “AI safety” or “AI dangers” entirely for marketing.

Now you're left stranded with degrees and expertise in something the whole world is sick and tired of, and in a few years of time will only be associated with a bubble that once bursted. Only you and others in the field still understand how fascinating the science truly is, but even you can no longer distinguish it from the dystopian ethical issues, including plagiarism and environmental concerns.
