I'm getting the impression that people have been so primed against leftwing ideas that when it becomes clear they have to choose between those and fascism they'll either go fash or go truly unhinged.

That's part of the process, I'd guess. (I'm guessing because my entire life I've been trapped in political amber, so I don't know how this shit rolls out)

Living through this is actually pretty cool. In the same way watching COVID evolve over trillions of generations in real time was "cool".
