   How can Pixelfed sustain the growth without introducing ads or some other form of monetization?

   Federation.

   If pixelfed.social becomes to costly, we simply close registration. I'd never consider any other option, especially one that would sell out our core mission by taking VC funding.

   This is why I'm asking for you to help fund this open source empire of future-proof social media.

     @dansup That's something you should reconsider, I feel. Because you're thinking about ads as something done only by corporates. But if you instead think about it as a new product or an improvement on an existing product being offered to customers, then I don't think it's ethically wrong to show those ads, as it could be beneficial for the same community. Especially so if these ads have good entertainment and informative value.
