     One of the lasting images from that quake for me is the cover of the Doobie Brothers album The Captain and Me. The cover photos were shot along the Antelope Valley Freeway/I-5 interchange, which collapsed in the quake. The photos were taken before the interchange was rebuilt.

     Speaking of earthquakes...

     Today (February 9) is the anniversary of the 1971 Sylmar quake in Southern California. I was living just north of Cajon Pass at the time. It was a 6.5 rocker that woke me from sleep. It was the first major quake I experienced in my young life.
