i just got the most cursed idea to config software:

so jmagine some software has some boolean config options. instead of a config file you have a config directory. in that directory there are 2 more directories named 'true' and 'false'. in these directories are empty files named after the config options. depending on in which directory a file is located the corresponding config option is set to true or false.
