Here we are! FediMeteo is landing in the American Continent!
The first Country covered is the USA - but Canada will follow shortly.

It’s already possible to follow US cities at this link: https://us.fedimeteo.com

The cities are listed alphabetically - I realize the list might not be very clear, but I’ll try to improve its readability in the coming days.

The format is: city_name__state so, for example, Washington D.C. will be: @washingtondistrictof_columbia@us.fedimeteo.com

In the meantime, enjoy the forecasts!

@stefano "but now you can figure out where people live by looking at which weather report they subscribe to!"

This is great though, already subscribed. Thanks for running it

@stefano if users don't hide their own following/followers lists it does expose the relationship

However this is just a tradeoff we need to understand and accept in the fediverse. It is what it is.

Perhaps we could petition the different software (Mastodon, etc) to allow us to mark a contact as private so it doesn't get exposed while letting the rest of your following/followers be public.

@feld Yes, in theory, I could. However, snac doesn't display followers or following, so I'd have to start grepping through thousands of JSON files. There's also a trick: just follow more cities (then mute the ones you're not interested in), and I'll be left puzzled 🙂. To be honest, I don't really care where people live; I just hope they find those reports useful.

@stefano I'm going to evaluate adding it to Pleroma as it would be pretty easy to do
