     @janettespeyer when I need to explain the FediVerse, I tend to use the following:

     Instance -> model of your cellphone
     Mastodon, Pixelfed, etc -> the maker / brand of your cellphone

     The same way, no matter the maker or model of your phone, you can call and message any other phone.

     Just like email, but email is like the landline in this analogy
