They are right though that Americans have a huge blind spot about the capabilities of the Chinese. They're just not stupid. They can be innovative. There are a lot of very smart people there. look up a technical term on google scholar or IEEE, half the names are Chinese. If you check the university mentioned in the paper it's Beijing and shit too

@sun my guess is those were some of the top of the top plus they were westernised and fluent in English, you can find people like that of all races and countries, they are very much not representative of their kind. To say that there is more smart Chinese than the entire population of the US is to say that about 30% of the Chinese are smart.
I feel like if things were that way the world would look very differently than it does. -
