My raspberry pi 400 is not performing as well as a download center as I hoped/wanted. Maybe I should just get an old thinkpad and repurpose it for it. Bonus point, I can even temporarily unplug it and move it. The question is, if I do that what do I use the pi for?
@raccoon >Maybe I should just get an old thinkpad and repurpose it for it. If you already have the hardware yes. Otherwise you can buy very very cheap pc "clients" for 20 bucks on ebay.
@raccoon A pc client by definition is a pc with so little resources that you can just boot an connect on a server over lan. For example the French minitel was a pc clients, they just had the minimum to show text and connect to the phone network.
These days a client is considered a client even tho it has like 2~4GB of ram and a dual or quad core cpu, and that's notably because all of the big brains in the world use windows to run such system.
@mangeurdenuage@shitposter.world I just figured maybe a desktop with gui and qbit might be too much but guess not. Ok the next question is, recommendations?
