   Today I travelled almost 500km. To a work thing, then back home in time for dinner.

   I rode my bike to the train station, spent the train ride working. I had about six hours on site, then went back the way I came.

   I was able to work the whole time. I didn’t cause any CO2 emissions (if the train company’s marketing is to be believed).

   It was a good day!

     @fedops Fair point.

     But I wouldn't have been able to do ca. 5 hours' worth of work while driving an EV.

     (Plus I fucking hate driving. Germans are murderous idiots behind the wheel.)

     @slothrop by that logic an EV rental car would also not have created any emissions. And we all know that's not true.

     Apart from all the obvious resources going into vehicles and infrastructure, there's also the fact that until all electricity is generated through renewables there's always a penalty for every kWh used, no matter where or how.

     @slothrop absolutely. Not questioning your choice. Just the metrics should be clear. From a resource perspective the best trip is the one we don't take.
