   I now read reports of NSF review panels being canceled.

   There is no reason for any of this.

   I’m an NSF panel reviewer that was scheduled to meet today. Just got notice that all NSF panels were canceled today. I reviewed some innovative proposals in support of students. Devastating if these scholars don’t get to do this work. For the love of science & students I hope this is just a delay

     @michael_w_busch Wow, I did not hear about NSF cancelling panels. Last week, it was NIH instructed to cancel all activities with grants. NSF is supposed to be an independent agency!

     It is decision season for the NSF's Research Experience for Undergraduates program.

     Anywhere that hosts REU students and has its grant up for renewal will now have to decide if they send out offers to students for this year or not.

     Just to give one example of the immediate harm from this.

     @michael_w_busch @EricFielding I haven't been able to learn anything beyond reports from panelists. It appears to be across multiple directorates though.

     @EricFielding I have no more information beyond several independent reports of NSF reviewers being told that their panels are canceled.

     But there is no reason to do this.

     Managers can choose to not follow illegal executive orders.
