As a #vegan I believe it would make sense to make food at #fosdem entirely plant-based. Maybe next year?

(Hoping the fries were vegan, in Belgium fries often aren't even vegetarian, and only vegans seem to know this)

On the plus side, statistics on vegan burgers were not bad though. WDYT?

      What are non-vegetarian fries?

I assume non-vegan fries are fried in animal fat?

@JeroenBaten hehe, don't go all imposter syndrome in me, of course I care!

As any #vegan I can easily agree with you that people do not need to eat more than a spoonful of meat per week. Wouldn't it be safe to assume that people who consume meat will easily get their (supposedly necessary) weekly ration outside of #FOSDEM, while most eat much more than our planet is able to sustain?

Wouldn't it be the responsible and logical thing to do to (advocate to) make #FOSDEM26 a vegan/plant-based event?

@janneke I honestly doubt you want to know what I think. But here goes. The human brain absolutely depends for some of its nutrients that are only found in meat. I grant you, we do not need a lot. About a spoon of meat per week. But we do need it. Would the world be better with a completely overhauled food industry? Absolutely! Should humans eat meat? Yes, absolutely, only a lot less than now.

@janneke we did all of the last few JSConf’s EU entirely vegan, it’s very possible.

@JeroenBaten It would be so amazing if this advice would actually work. We could reduce meat consumption and thus meat production and thus animal suffering by about 98% over night. Let's try it out!

I hereby send you my magic cloak that makes you receive any and all #goVegan advocacy messages as to implicitly still "allow" for a spoonful of meat a week.

Please tell us when you have turned #vegan--eating no more than a spoonful of meat a week---and return my magic cloak!

@janneke I think it would not hurt the vegan message to say you only need a spoon full of meat a week. At the moment all I see are vegans saying everybody should eat 100% plant-based diet. And that is just not true.

      @JeroenBaten @denisbloodnok
Thank you, and your daughter is, imho, amazingly right, and thanks for getting back on this.

Most vegans would say: take B12, but as it turns out, not everyone needs to. However, vegans usually scare away from saying that because people might be seduced to thinking they won't need supplements and fail to _check_ with their physisian/fail to get their blood work done. Also, supplementing B12 if you are a person who would not need is, is in no way harmful (it's not even expensive).

I would like to note that B12 deficiency is not uncommon in carnists and vegetarians. That's because our environment has become "too hygienic". This also goes for most farm animals. They get supplemented with B12 (some with cobalt so that they can produce more B12), and that's where carnists get their B12: they also consume supplements but those supplements have been filtered through an animal.

@denisbloodnok @janneke I just talked with my daughter about this. Seems vegans should monitor that they get enough vitamin B12 to prevent neurological issues. Again, don't take my word for it. Check with your own physician.

@JeroenBaten @janneke That seems an extraordinary claim given the world is full of vegans whose brains seem to be operating perfectly well. Indeed, you're replying to one. Are we to believe they all have a jar of pate in the fridge they take a sneaky spoonful of every Sunday?

(FTAOD I am neither vegan nor vegetarian.)
