@TrevorGoodchild @Paleface @IAMAL_PHARIUS @YourAverageNewfag An interesting thing about opensource is that further tech infrastructure will be built around components and that adoption gives those specific pieces staying power. (See the fairly recent supply chain attack that BSOD a lot of companies).
By making it open source they’re going to have their ai being the one integrated. Massive future play.

@BarelyEagle @TrevorGoodchild @Paleface @YourAverageNewfag Getting to a permanent place in international markets as a foundation people build their utilities around.
Like how chrome is for browsers. I dont think benchmark figures matter in that way

@IAMAL_PHARIUS @TrevorGoodchild @Paleface @YourAverageNewfag Win in what sense, being the best technologically, or in getting people to integrate it into their systems? Blackberry had a monopoly for a bit (and behind the scenes government support).
I'm a bit of a scifi fan and I think Altered Carbon had some great lines. One of them was to the effect that the Romans were so effective not because they were superior fighters or had wunderwaffen, it was because they had roads. Simply, logistics if you will.
My thesis is just that widespread adoption in an open source environment where the community is building stuff on top of your technology gives you "roads". So they just dropped a superior (for the moment) technology, open sourced it, and said yeah have fun with this do whatever you want.
Apple and Google pushed their app stores because it gets people locked into their ecosystem and there are natural barriers to change - both psychological and economic.
It just has to be good enough, and adopted enough to get a solid foothold (beachhead?).
We are using computers that are built on top of code written by one dude decades ago.

@IAMAL_PHARIUS @BarelyEagle @TrevorGoodchild @Paleface @YourAverageNewfag like fucking gmail says "your browser is out of date" if you go a fucking week without updating.
G-fucking-mail isn't needing anything new in a browser in 2024. That piece of shit hasn't been changed in a real way in like 10 years.
