   @peter Exactly, completely irresponsible to use it as a mechanism for public communication, for many reasons, but that you can't actually see important information without an account is a huge one. Governments should have NEVER used these services. The only remotely responsible thing would be to create a public notifications feed on a neutral provider, preferably a self managed website, whose content then gets mirrors to other social sites.

     Barcelona city government is leaving X. better late than never I guess, but it's been at least a year now that you can't check the announcements if you don't have an account, so I don't understand why anyone still keeps doing their public communications there.
