   Every. Time. I. Post. about #Signal, the first few comments are "X is better, IMHO, you shouldn't use Signal".

   I hope you know that what you are doing with such comments is to drive "normal" people out there from making ANY decision to give it a try. Because what they read is that Signal isn't good but that the alternatives promoted are also weird. Hence they stick with what they have.

     @jwildeboer I've been using Signal happily. Seems to do the job and more of my contacts are joining. What have the criticisms of Signal been?

     @ericb Here we go again. Another open invitation to attract the people that want to make Signal look bad. You will find the (often weird, sometimes plain wrong) criticisms at many places. But sure, let's go over all of that again. Le sigh.

     - Signal gets money from the US givernment (wrong)
     - Signal needs your phone number so it (and evil authorities) can now track you (wrong)
     - Signal knows all your contacts (wrong)
     - Signal is not Open Source enough (partly valid, but not critical IMHO)

     not necessary evil. it was an intentionally designed-in evil, that could have been avoided by various means that would have accomplished decentralization. but that was against the design goals, which unfortunately sounds suspicious.
