@AshChapelsGhost @SuperSnekFriend I rewatched In The Pale Moonlight recently, almost a quarter of the episode is a Sisko monologue about his struggles and moral conflict. It is an episode that puts on the line the ideals of the Federation against the urgency of war.

No pew pew, no explosions. Just an exploration of morality, war and the personal struggles of a man

Didn't Deep Space Nine do that shtick already thirty years ago?

@SuperSnekFriend @hfaust They did, and they did it really well. We saw how the Federation wages war, but the best episodes were nearly all those where they embraced the inherent ridiculousness of the show's concept.

Like a tailor who is an assassin. A hypercapitalist bartender in a world with infinite abundance. A spineless doctor who was genetically engineered to be the best, and yet is devoid of any courage.

Shit like that. You just have to understand the kind of show you're making, and just tell a good story. Yeah, some of it is progressive BS slop, but it's good progressive BS slop because they were actually trying instead of just proselytizing.

You can see a trend in almost all of the positive reviews:

      a) They wanted a series
      b) This is not your "typical" Star Trek
      c) It's dark and gritty and different, and therefore it's good!
