     @vitalis @NotImportant The whole idea was that you would tilt forward so you could see, steer the horse and aim the lance and at the last second look up (you could no longer see but the lance was already aimed), so any lance fragments couldn't penetrate your face or eyes.

     they were used almost exclusively by mounted knights for jousting tournaments
