        Central bank digital currency
A central bank digital currency (CBDC; also called digital fiat currency or digital base money) is a digital currency issued by a central bank, rather than by a commercial bank. It is also a liability of the central bank, unless it is dividend-paying, then it is an ownership stake in the central bank, and is a new form of legal tender, unlike regular retail CBDC which is denominated in the sovereign currency, as is the case with physical banknotes, coin and existing reserves. The two primary categories of CBDCs are retail and wholesale. Retail CBDCs are designed for households and businesses to make payments for everyday transactions, whereas wholesale CBDCs are designed for financial institutions and operate similarly to central bank reserves. Retail CBDCs can be distributed through various models. In the intermediated model, the central bank issues the CBDC and manages core infrastructures, while financial intermediaries offer customer services. The ECB and the Federal Reserve have proposed intermediated CBDCs. Alternatively, the central bank could either provide the full service or delegate responsibilities...

@Anonsfw @lain the thing I used to mention during the "muslim country" ban thing was, people were acting like it was new, but the USA already had in place a ban on immigration from certain countries due to terrorism, for example one was Chechnya. Remember those bomber brothers, their family only was allowed to immigrate to the USA by special exception because their uncle worked in the CIA and it apparently was a reward for services rendered.

@sun @lain I still think Trump 2016-2020's term was a lot more tame than a lot of people gave it.

What he did was about on par of what other country leaders would do, Probably now even more so albeit a bit more extreme with even Legal Immigrants can be deported if they did something wrong as in stealing.

@maija @lain @Anonsfw the most "delightful" thing I have seen related to this is Indians on the H1B subreddit saying that children were now a "liability not an asset" if they couldn't be leveraged to get them citizenship through birth citizenship getting them in through family unification laws.

@lain @maija @sun I don't think people like myself will be deported since I was born and raised in america and so did my parents. But mainly Migrants who came from Mexico, Became legal Immigrants are the ones that, According to that one post that I can't find so it's a baseless statement, that supposedly could be deported back if they did something illegal.

But again, I do not know now since i can't find the source lol.

@nav @sun It's a blatant form of tyranny. It's like banning mustard gas outside of special lab conditions -- it's banning something that gives too much power to one institution and will lead to mass suffering if allowed to be installed anywhere

@sun@shitposter.world Why is banning CBDCs a good thing?

Also, what purpose does a CBDC even serve when fiat currency can already be used digitally?
