   how do we tell the story that the fediverse is complex web of instances, and that that is desirable?

   (e.g.there is a direct link between the search not returning every result -- independent moderation -- isolating instances of abuse)

   this is critical for helping people exit the hegemonies, because there are desires learned from being there that we can't & don't want to recreate

     Segmenting the network to human-scale sizes makes the problem simpler.

     Traditionally the recommended size is Dunbar's number. ;)

     @douginamug Yes I was active in #MeatBallWiki around 2010 mostly. It helped me understand a lot about online communities (but was already past its prime days).

     @nemobis oof... firstly, that's a real rough handling of Arrow's Impossibility theorem and secondly his point is pretty much the generalization that "you can't make everyone happy" 😓

     But thanks for giving me some things to think about, I'll see how I might weave it in.

     Do you have a history with meatballwiki?
