Yeah. 🙁 Literally the only reason I can do this is that I’m funding it from past successes (non-game in my case). I’m guessing a bunch of previously successful indies will do the same. But after that? 😕

I’m a ageing dude now, I don’t have to worry about a “future” career very much so I’m lucky. If I did, I’d definitely think twice about going all-in on the games industry. I tried when I was young & failed to get hired, & I think that was secretly a blessing

I keep seeing various takes and I just, ok: Yes, you can make small games quite cheaply, a bunch of us are But no, this model can't be deployed at scale So yes games will keep being made, but you're gonna see far, far fewer being made And, you likely won't notice due to how many go unnoticed now

@sinbad @glassbottommeg yeah, I tried to get into indie game dev in late 90s with the first Symbian phones, when the SDK was still assembly. IIRC the C/C++. I got a friend from US to back me up in a VC style, but I failed to deliver honestly. And I really consider that a blessing now :)

The older I get tho I feel like games may give a better way to express myself than for example demoscene… but it’s also hard to consciously step into an area that’s so oversaturated :/
