   The fediverse is peak freedom of speech, IMO. Anyone is free to say anything they wish. Similarly, I’m free to turn their volume knob on my timeline to zero. They can go build their own instance and keep saying whatever they want! I’m not stopping them! I’m just exercising my freedom to say they’re a jackass I wish not to hear.

     @loop0 The US 1st amendment says the government can’t punish you for speech outside specific narrow cases. The rest of us can do whatever we want in response to shitty things people say.

     @tek I think what especially helps is that there's no incentive to be an utter cunt lol

     you don't get engagement by screaming and thrashing, It Just Doesn't Happen— so people's voices aren't being arbitrarily boosted in favor of whatever gets the most numbers to go up lol

     A) Posters aren’t rewarded based on outrage/incredulity factor
     B) I have real choice in what I see and don’t see
