HEAD’S UP: Do not attempt to register on pixelfed.social!

It’s not able to keep up with demand, and there have been federation outages!

Hence, pixelfed.social has been removed from Pixelfed’s official server list.

If you want to use #Pixelfed, try with a different server. There’s over 500 of them available.

@garybrazzell Mastodon.social is a good place to start. Think of it like a welcome lobby. However, I wouldn’t stay there.

The click-level advice is to start up your own server, if you can. That can be something like Mastodon, WordPress, Ghost, NodeBB, Pixelfed, etc.

If you can’t, join a server run by an institution with a board of directors—something where governance is transparent.

@atomicpoet Okay, so I am planning to use my company to start Fediverse evangelizing. What's the click-here level advice for picking a server? It feels like us newbies are guided softly into the warm welcome of mastodon.social.

@atomicpoet I'm only days old in the Fediverse. If by some miracle tens of millions of other social refugees and expats should migrate over here, can the infrastructure cope?

@garybrazzell Sure, there’s over nearly 30,000 Fediverse servers, and it’s easy to spin up another. You can have one started in 5 minutes.

What I don’t advise is for you all to start piling onto one server. This isn’t Twitter where you depend on one site for everything.
