    @pluralistic Hi, I’m a big fan from Brasil! I’m reading Chokepoint Capitalism and I’m baffled by the severity of the problems we are facing regarding the Big Techs (and it seems they’ll become quite worse from this day on). I’ve just finished the chapter focused on the history of Amazon and I’d like to know your impressions on Rakuten Kobo ereaders business model, if you have any.

      @factolvictor @bookstodon They're fine, AFAICT, but I don't think they can resolve the issues with Amazon/Kindle dominance. For that we need robust interop and antitrust.

      @factolvictor @pluralistic

      all retailers support DRM-free epub, if you got a DRM book on Amazon (you probably didn't but it HAS happened) it was because the publisher requested it

      Amazon is a lot of things but they do not insist or even recommend that authors or publishers DRM their books

      @pluralistic Does their policy of supporting DRM-free EPUB on their Kobo ereaders make Kobo a slightly better choice (or the lesser evil)?
