    This past week I have heard the same question thrown around over and over again: "what's the point of setting up a #Pixelfed account if the software is interoperable with the rest of the Fediverse? Why not just post photos on Mastodon or Sharkey or __?"

    Well, #Pixelfed allows you to have a beautiful, curated feed of your photos.

    See:
    1️⃣ my self-hosted Pixelfed feed
    2️⃣ the way my #Mastodon feed appears on Pixelfed

    as evidence.

    Thank you @dansup for giving us an awesome Fedi photo platform 🙏

      @_elena @dansup I agree, it also gives you photos the possibilty of being seen by a wider, less tech savvy audience as well. These days all my photos get posted directly onto Pixelfed and just shared here on Mastodon

      @_elena I started using the Phanpy client for Caturday photos on Mastodon as it offers a media view similar to the example. I don't plan on posting a ton of pictures so I think this works for me, but this may not be ideal for others.

      It will be interesting to see if someone can create a client that can handle the best of both or if we should segment accounts by media type. I know I'd dislike lots of videos in my feed because that's a different kind of interaction. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

      @_elena One word response: Options.

      It's nice to have options on life.

      I wish the media size limit was high as Mastodon (100mb). 🤷🏻♂️

      @rr as a filmmaker and photographer used to compressing media for the internet, I strongly believe you don’t need more than 200kb per photo upload and you can get short videos down to 6-10MB. No need for 100Mb uploads, especially thinking of people in remote areas with spotty internet connections

      @Sammael99 sure thing. FYI there are LOTS of Pixelfed servers other than pixelfed.social. See the list here: https://fedidb.org/software/pixelfed

      @_elena Thanks Elena, that's a useful comparison. I was considering Pixelfed, I think you've convinced me (although as I understand it, the new account servers are saturated right now...)
