@ins0mniak @gatewaypundit_official All it takes is to host content from within the EU and be big enough to fulfill the requirements around DSA and the other act nobody remembers the name of. Or if the company is a gatekeeper, the company is forced to moderate content even when operating completely outside of the EU.

They can basically force social media companies to split their "network" in half and block the "bad" content only in EU. Same thing with their required independent fact checkers and requirements to remove content when ordered by law enforcement within 24 hours with huge fines when breaking those rules.

This kind of stupidity is the sole reason why I don't host any user created content, including FluffyTail, in the EU. There's some kind of requirement in the DSA based on number of users with a vague definition when it comes to federated networks. And arguing with law enforcement that I in fact don't host thousands of users only because some random post from Poast and adjacent got their attention isn't my thing. The likelihood is very small, but I don't like taking unnecessary chances.

@phnt @gatewaypundit_official It's utterly stunning to me that they've gotten to this point. They're like the Soviets were but with pride flags. That's not even me being hyperbolic I don't think, I mean to have such system-wide control over the flow of information is terrifying to me.

I have everything to move my server back into the States, majestic12 is currently in Luxumborg. I don't know what I was thinking other than that was the only available server on frantech at the time and may have been drinking.

@phnt @gatewaypundit_official It's bizzare that these EU creatures think they get to dictate what American companies can do online.

I guess if they have operations over there, but they can't harass Americans for speaking online or running a website in the US.

@ins0mniak @gatewaypundit_official And the witch hunt continues. DSA apparently wasn't enough.

      >They're like the Soviets were but with pride flags.

That is a very great way to put it. Europe has been slowly radicalizing over the last 5-10 years and this is the way some of the bigger governments decided to go about it. It's not unusual to be seen as a weirdo, if you don't read and/or trust mass media (state owned or not). Casting doubt makes you a rebel basically immediately.

For some reason there's this divide of privacy and freedom of speech, where privacy is generally good and respected by law enforcement, which is good for hosting your personal cloud. But the moment you anger a politician with your opinion, or your opinions are too spicy, your privacy is out the window.

      >I have everything to move my server back into the States, majestic12 is currently in Luxumborg.

You might want to periodically check your email for some non-invoice emails from BuyVM. Somewhere in the next 6 months the LUX will be moved live to either the Netherlands or Switzerland. Netherlands isn't really known for it's good opinions on privacy and actively prosecuted "hate speech" (probably not something you would want to associate with). Switzerland does have good privacy laws, so that is the better currently preferred option.

      >I don't know what I was thinking other than that was the only available server on frantech at the time and may have been drinking.

Maybe anti-dmca. That's basically the only good thing LUX has going for it along with the average privacy laws.
