   The Neon Bible

   I purchased the Confederacy and read of the Author's death. Having read the book and feeling the loss; a second book was published. More than another tormented Southern author; he was a product of America. I saw the magas here, the christofascists . . . the whole cast parading around. If Catch 22 helped me survive the Army, surely this is a guide to 21st century Amerikka.

     @bmacDonald94 John Kennedy Toole was a genuinely tragic figure. A brilliant writer who wrote possible the best American novel of the last century, only to be completely ignored and rejected by everyone in the business. Which led to his death.

     I don't think all the pundits and suck-ups who praised him post-mortem were worth a damn, as that Pulitzer surely did him no good AFTER he was dead.

     @DifferentDrummer ~ I agree to a point. His mother heroically heralded his books to be published and in the second case had to fight the family to get it published at all. It was her prize and we all won. Otherwise the tragedy would have been he was silenced before he spoke.

     @DifferentDrummer That is your take then. I posted because of the awesome impact both books had on my life. Surprisingly not bitter at all. I am grateful for both. Both stories were vital in telling.

     @bmacDonald94 both of these are excellent books. I've read Confederacy of Dunces several times, one of the few books I've reread multiple times.

     @somcak ~ As years went by; I found the book more in line with what was happening. Today we achieved the Confederacy. 💕
