   @markhburton exactly, an economic recession is like crashing a car, while degrowth is like parking the car then getting out and walking instead.

     Well now, we might think that this would be a good thing, the only way to actually get serious reduction in carbon emissions, and given the likely scenario of continued inaction / pretend action, it is.
     However, such a crash would destroy many lives and livelihoods.
     Before someone suggests it - this is not #degrowth, but unmanaged contraction.
