@Tarnport I googled the sculptor, and it turns out that his father was Anthony Quinn. I wonder how many tourists took a picture of this sculpture thinking it was some renaissance masterpiece, when in reality it was made 30 years ago by the son of Zorba the Greek.
@eribosot one imagines there might have been other titles, too.
@Tarnport I'll never forget the story of surrealist movie director Luis Buñuel, who used to work at the Prado in Madrid, giving tours to tourists.
He would skip past the undisputed masterpieces like Las Meninas by Velázquez, and instead heap praise on some unremarkable portrait from some obscure, long forgotten painter. It happened only rarely, he said, that a member of the tour group would approach him afterward to ask for an explanation.
@eribosot I love this detail. Absolutely.
