Honestly the amount of people saying that Chinese people are so nice on RedNote is kinda amusing. I was thinking, just how bad is *their* social media?? Then I went back to Twitter and remembered hahahah
(I don't have Tiktok because the brainrot there is an IQ killer)
FYI, tbh Americans got lucky with #RedNote - it's an app with a large female base, more like Pinterest than anything. If they had chosen Weibo, whoooboooy. I think diplomatic relations would crumble there and then.

@oblomov tbh, despite how stringent moderation is in China, they still couldn't control the insanity on Weibo. So I think it's just the nature of #socialmedia. Relatively, #RedNote isn't as "big" as Weibo. It's one of those "boutique" apps. I hope it doesn't change things lol

@liztai with the downwards trend of the last couple of years, the difference has probably only grown starker.

@liztai I'm mostly still killing my brain on Tiktok and lately I have seen a whole bunch of Americans who cry about being banned on Rednote. It's all a bit funny.

@dominik about the banning, they really need to respect the rules basically. Unfortunately most don't know what they are and think that semi-naked photos are ok, and political rants ... yeah it's not super "free speech" but it's kinda like X, Tiktok these days too. Just diff territory, diff rules.

@liztai yeah, every video I saw, I thought "Well, I can tell why you were being banned." Might be a bit of a culture shock for certain people.

@liztai I'll try to remember to share the next one I see. I can't promise it, though - my brain can be a bit of a sieve. 😬

@liztai my experience has been incredibly positive so far - I've been posting videos about Seattle and learning Chinese, and I've had thousands of comments, learned a bunch of Chinese jokes about "Tony the Hairdresser" and somehow have more than 1000 people, mostly Chinese, following me 🙃
My notifications bar looks like this permanently because I can't keep up lol
