   It truly is amazing how unreliable everything is today. For example, we have an $8,000+ projector system in the office. If it’s off for more than a few days we all wonder if it will even work again. That seems pretty normal with most tech and no one thinks twice about it.

   When I was a kid though… “sure I’ve got an old screen in the garage from 20 years ago… it will work fine.” - and it did.

   The level of enshitification and rot we accept as “normal” is truly horrifying.

     When my parents moved out of their house of 43 years they had to pay to have the basement refrigerator removed, which was still working fine, because it was from the 1950s and the refrigerant had to be disposed of.

     Since 2010 I’ve bought 5 refrigerators, some after moving but most because a fridge between 2 and 10 years old died.

     It’s all so very messed up.

     @Jennifer Oof. I definitely get that. My post this week was prompted by a stove but it's pretty much everywhere with very few exceptions.

     @chris I was saying this to my husband yesterday. Our dishwasher is two years old and I just noticed the heating element is warped and is melting the spinny thing. My parents had the same dishwasher with no problems for probably 20 years.
