Are there any books/stories where religion is actually real, and people do experiments to find out how things really work?

Like for example which exact words to use in prayers to get your intended results, the structural changes happening when angels interacts with physics, and stuff like that? A world where religious knowledge actually progresses over time, just like scientific knowledge of the material world?

I think that would be really interesting.
