    > Enter details EXACTLY as shown on passport

    > Please only enter ASCII characters

    > Address must not exceed 15 characters

    > [x] I confirm the information I have provided is complete and accurate

This triggers me so much more than it should. And then the computer messes up my first and middle name by concatenation, replaces umlauts incorrectly with just an "u" (instead of "ue") …

Fortunately, this never caused any trouble with any border officers yet, but it's just trouble waiting to happen.

@monk @fluepke passports contain an anglicized variant of the name, but only in the machine-readable data area , that’s the big block of characters at the bottom. That data is hard to understand for some people.

@fluepke isn't your country supposed to provide you an ASCII-compatible legal name?

and yes, you want to stick to ASCII, trust me, and don't you dare call it racist until you learn to write every glyph that's out there in people's names. there are legacy names and there are ASCII names.

When getting your name changed or when marrying, make sure to become or remain as compatible with broken, racist computer character sets (US-ASCII) as possible.
