When Florida can report and arrest trans people for just going to the bathroom, and they can now also forcibly detransition people in prison by refusing their meds and shaving their heads, and the industry is still ✨⭐️conference at Epcot✨⭐️!

It’s not just a risk locals face. It’s one Karen reporting or one ER visit.

Fear and Tooting in Las Vegas (steevmi1@freeradical.zone)'s status on Thursday, 16-Jan-2025 16:41:01 JST Fear and Tooting in Las Vegas @hacks4pancakes That reminds me I need to reach out to the premier conference for my industry (SuperComputing). Last year they were in GA, this year MO. Need to say as a straight, white, mid-50s man that I'm not looking at attending events (physically or remote) in states that actively support bigotry.
They're not Florida or Texas, but IMO it's more a case of degree than anything.

I let them know that I would not be coming for reasons similar to what you mentioned. Most of the attendees are women and many are in their 20s and 30s.
I could not attend in good conscience knowing that so many women would be in potential danger.
Not to mention the fact that we should not monetarily support these state governments. Vote with your dollars for the changes you want to see!

(This is what killed RWA—they over-committed on cons then got slammed by COVID19 in 2020, at the same time as an omnishambles of other fuckery that turned off their attendees). Worst I know of is in Japan conference hotels get locked down 5 years in advance. So it might not be 100% on the current conference organizers ...
