    @mythologyandhistory

    You left out the fact that in April 1964 Brazil's democratically elected government was deposed -- with full and explicit US support -- by the military, who remained in power for the next 20 years. Until the Argentinian war for the Falklands convinced the US that military dictatorships was not a good way to control Latin American countries, and they switched to a different method.

    That puts a somewhat different light in the "US intervention" you have there.

      I try to post about historical facts that are somewhat light-hearted (usually).

      Great informed comment though! Thanks :)

      @mythologyandhistory

      I see. But I am afraid that nothing about politics, especially in Latin America, can be "light-hearted"...

      There is too much politics around, on every single social media website, this one included.

      It IS interesting that 2 countries almost lost it over some crustaceans. That's an interesting fact, and if someone wants to go into the political reality of maritime laws, etc. that's great!

      This is similar to the 'Emu Wars' in Australia - that was technically serious too, but life's too short not to see the amusing parts, wouldn't you agree? :)
