Terminated my accounts at Meta's Instagram and Threads...
Now working on helping my community set up a possible alternative to our very useful Facebook group. Leaning toward WordPress/BuddyPress but open to (serious) suggestions.

@dangillmor what about a Hometown server? It's a spin of Mastodon that allows local-only posts, so you can have private discussions within the server.
@dangillmor #Zulip ist similar to #Slack and also allows participation via browser.
@tero @dangillmor fostering community participation including scheduling events seems closer to the digital democracy space. Multiple options exist there, a simple effective one is #Loomio - itself developed by a co-op, hosted or self-hosted, trivial sign-up/sign-in (e-mail login), discussions, voting, etc. Example digital community if you want feedback: https://codema.in
@dangillmor, I'm also considering starting up a bunch of social websites/forums to gather similar-minded people together locally.
So far it hasn't started well because people don't really search the web anymore, only Facebook.
