Growth is the process of economic consolidation. Economic consolidation requires energy, intensification, and because consolidation and intensification go hand-in-hand that leads to an inexorable rise and energy use.
The single, most effective in fact the only effective measure to reversed. The destruction of the planet is to promote re-localizing economies. Human ingenuity has been devoted to consolidation not to comfort and ease within a local region.

The cultures of the Pacific Northwest had a very different kind of economy. It was largely centered around potlatch.
Which can best be summarized as competitive gift giving. Communities devoted themselves to producing material goods to be distributed to other communities in lavish gift giving.
In its most extreme case achieved and would show off as wealth by not only showering gifts on his guests, but burning piles of goods In a display of super abundance

I haven’t read that. I do know that they would capture people from neighboring communities to work in this effort. This is something I learned only recently so it’s put diminish the shine on the system.
The ability of people and power to subjugate others is inexhaustible. That kind of behavior simply has to be forbidden by societies, cause somebody there will always be somebody willing to try it
