   I found out this morning that my best friend, Chad, died last week. We lived on opposite coasts and hadn't seen each other in a couple years, but still had long, rambling phone calls pretty regularly. We saw life through different lenses and disagreed on a great many things, but still found common ground to laugh about yet more.

     I can’t share too many of our stories -- statute of limitations not expired and all that -- but he had a way of finding hilarity in the most horrible, awful situations.

     He was a construction contractor. One time he slipped and fell, finding himself suspended upside down by a piece of rebar through his, ahem, guy parts. He called me from the hospital and had me in tears laughing at it. Not just anyone could've done that.

     Heh, one last remembrance I had to share, of the time we were in a night club in Kansas City, and Chad tried to flirt with a Chiefs cheerleader. She was rude, nasty, and arrogant to him. His response was so brutally snarky that, long story short, everyone involved was tossed out of the club, us out one door and the Chiefs defensive line out another on the opposite side.

     He had a way of finding mischief and turning it up to 11. You had to be willing to be along for the ride.
