Supressing certain individual freedoms, which would naturally require centeralized power and the application of censorship, would be necessary in a post-capitalist society to prevent the restoration of capitalism. In a post-capitalist society, if reactionaries who want the restoration of capitalism are allowed to freely create reactionary groups, publish reactionary literature, and openly advocate for the restoration of capitalism, then it will only be a matter of time until...1/2
...the people of this society, who would have grown up under capitalism and would still be susceptible to capitalist lies and propaganda, join the reactionaries in demolishing the new post-capitalist society and returning to the old and familiar prison of capitalism. Limiting the freedoms of reactionaries who want to destroy everything that the revolution has built is something that has to happen in order for the revolution to actually be successful. 2/2
A system implementing censorship and propaganda is not an indication that material reality is against its existence. Whether it is or not depends on whether that system can find a way to exist, regardless of what that way is. If the system can exist without the use of censorship and propaganda, then the material reality is in favor of it existing. If the system can exist only with the use of censorship and propaganda, then the material reality is in favor of it existing.
@Radical_EgoCom@midtsveen if censorship and propaganda are needed to make socialism work, then it means that times are not mature as the material reality is just not there. Assuming that we need a propaganda regime to make socialism work means completely disregard the material reason why capitalism needs to be replaced.
It is capitalism that, at this stage, needs a powerful propaganda and coercion machinery to drug people into consumerism.
